The Ford GT stands among the elite as a car designed for track-style performance and handling. Now the popular model is gaining traction with an entirely new track-focused version. The Ford GT Competition Series boasts a lower weight, allowing for more responsive handling.
“The Competition Series was developed with the most hardcore track enthusiasts in mind, providing a tailored set of lightweight features and unique livery to match,” said Raj Nair, Ford product chief.
Ford had the GT’s weight in its sights when developing the most track-focused model to date. The Competition Series features a range of weight-saving features, including the radio, infotainment system, and storage bins. The engine cover is acrylic while Gorilla glass makes up the bulkhead. Standard weight-reducing features includes titanium lug nuts and carbon-fiber wheels.
Carbon fiber comes standard throughout the design, namely in the gloss striping, A-pillars, and lower body trim. The interior sees quite a bit of carbon fiber as well.
The Ford GT Competition Series boasts a twin-turbocharged V6 engine that churns out 647 hp and the entire car weighs in at just over 3,000 pounds. The Competition Series will be a part of the 250 annual limited-production run over the next four years.
