ST Family Is Growing.
With the release of two ST model compacts, the sporty Focus RS, the F-150 Raptor, and the new Shelby GT350 Mustang, the Ford Performance division has grown an astounding 81% in the last four years. And it appears this growth is the just the beginning, as the automaker recently confirmed that a new Ford Explorer ST will be available by 2020.
While we don’t have a lot of specific details about the upcoming Explorer ST yet, we can assume quite a lot based on what we know about another new Ford performance SUV: the Edge ST. The new Edge ST will replace the Edge Sport, adding better performance along with an updated and distinctive exterior.
By 2020, the Ford Explorer Sport will be replaced by an upgraded Explorer ST, which is sure to take the performance SUV to a whole new level with more power, a bolder look, and other high-end options.
While high-performance versions of the Mustang have long made Ford a living legend in the sports car realm, it is clear that the automaker sees SUVs as the future of performance vehicles. According a recent press release, “Ford Performance sales are on track to grow another 71 percent by 2020, driven by SUVs.” Here at Bill Walsh Ford, we’re looking forward to finding out where this growth leads next!
