The Mustang GT California Special Returns.
Ford recently announced that it would bring back the Ford Mustang GT California Special for the 2019 model year. This special Mustang will have a blacked-out grille, a distinct interior design, custom floor mats, and badging. As a tribute to the 1967 Shelby GT notchback coupe prototype, the California Special is likely to become an instant classic.
The new California Special will have a 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers up to 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. This powerful engine lets the Mustang reach speeds of up to 155 mph with the optional performance package. Other great features include a quiet start mode to ensure you don’t wake the neighbors, as well as a customizable digital instrument cluster.
The California Special also comes with a distinctive convertible design featuring a silver exterior and sharp lines. Many of the design features hearken back to the original California Special.
“Few things are more satisfying than dropping the top on a California Special and taking a drive down the majestic Pacific Coast Highway,” Ford designer Mark Conforzi said in a statement. “This signature design takes its cues from the original California Special while enhancing the personality of today’s Mustang.”
